Relatively speaking, 2024 was a pretty big year for MacScene (I know, low bar). The last incarnation of MacScene lasted from October of 2011 to June 2024 and was in desperate need of replacement. With that in the rearview mirror, it’s time to look forward to 2025.
I’m not sure what to expect from MacScene, but the good news is that we’ve seen a steady increase in traffic back to the site. There are a lot of viewers, and hopefully, they’ll start posting more. The state of emulation on the Mac has really improved since we started the site, now you can easily spin up almost any retro game with minimal technical knowledge. For me the biggest news in retro gaming emulation in 2024 was the relaxation of AppStore restrictions and the release of a bunch of emulators for iOS. Personally, I’ve been enjoying Delta, but the touchscreen controls make even games like Super Mario World a bit of a challenge. It’ll be interesting to see what 2025 brings.
As we near the end of the year, I wanted to send a quick Happy New Year to everyone still active in the community. I hope your holidays are going well, and I wish all the best for you, your families, and your friends in the new year.
