Privacy Policy
Effective October 17, 2026
MacScene is a community forum about classic Mac games, emulation, and the Macintosh scene. It is run by Elemodo Software. This page explains what we collect when you use the forum, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
What we collect
- Your account: your username, email address, and password. Passwords are stored only as a secure one-way hash, so nobody can read them.
- What you post: discussions, replies, likes, poll votes, profile details such as your bio, and any images you upload.
- Technical details: the IP address a post was made from, and the IP address and browser type of your signed-in sessions. We use these to fight spam and abuse.
- Cookies: one session cookie keeps you signed in, and another remembers you if you choose "Remember me". We use no advertising or tracking cookies.
How we use it
We use this information to run the forum, show your posts, send the emails you ask for (such as reply notifications and password resets), and keep spam off the site. We never sell it or share it for advertising.
Services we rely on
- Amazon Web Services hosts the forum and its backups in the United States, stores uploaded images, and sends our emails.
- Pusher delivers live updates, such as new replies appearing without a page refresh.
- Fathom Analytics counts page views without cookies and without collecting personal information.
- Google and GitHub are involved only if you choose to sign in with them, in which case they share your name and email address with us.
How long we keep it
Your account and posts stay until you ask us to remove them. Database backups are kept for up to one year and then deleted.
Your choices
You can edit your profile and posts at any time, and change your email preferences in your settings. To have your account deleted, or to ask what information we hold about you, email us at support@macscene.net.
Children
MacScene is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will update the date above and ask members to review it.
