You folks up for another shot at Archive.vg?

Loved the original website and would love to work you guys again. I know there are a lot of video game DBs out there now, but most have a poor API and ugly design.

Obviously I'm not checking MacScene as much as I should. Sorry for the delayed response, I'll watch this thread.

I had started working on an update for MacScene using Flarum, but stalled out while working on converting the forum data here to Flarum's structure. Definitely something we can look at if there's interest.

If there was something we could do with Archive.vg that would be novel, I'd be all good to resurrect that too. The database itself was great with menace's data, and we really started getting traction with Mossy and Adam's content.

I'm all ears for some ideas.

I guess I'm simple to please, but something in the same vein as the original archive.vg would be a good start at least. A lot of the other game DBs out there are pretty bad/hard to use.

I stream lined getting content a few years ago by modifying OpenEmu to automatically upload screenshot captures of games. Same could be done for video recordings. So ramping up game content won't be super hard to do.

Now that MacScene has been updated and is stable, I think it's a good time to revisit the purpose and goals of both MacScene and Archive.vg. Both at one point had pretty vibrant communities, which obviously faded over time. I don't know if there's really a place for the same MacScene (forums and news dedicated to emulation on the Mac) and Archive.vg (a comprehensive open video game information and media database). Maybe there is.

But I'd be open to hearing anyone's ideas on what we can do. I've got some "hobby time" available and would be willing to invest both time and money into moving these communities in the right direction. If, of course, we had the right ideas.

@Niemann Hey, tried to login to my old Dookieman account and looks like my previously saved password no longer works. Did the old accounts DB get nuked? (I saw that you mentioned passwords were lost, but the email I originally signed up for I lost a long time ago.)

I'm 100% on board with working on Archive.vg again. I've been working on a new version of it myself but I'm not great a webdev as I'm a mobile dev so it's been slow going. I also have free time to work on it if you're up for it. I have a pretty update to date DB that includes a lot of good stuff. Let's sync up soon.

DookieMan Sorry for the issues, we lost all the old passwords so if you don't have access to the email account you registered at MacScene (all those years ago) then you won't be able to reset your password. I'll shoot you an email directly (if that's okay) and we can get you back in your old account.

As for Archive, would love to hear about what you've been working on.
