Speed Demos Archive has an associate who has been coming to their CGDQ/AGDQ/SGDQ marathons and providing his own piano soundtrack. Iirc, he's done full-game real-time accompaniment to Battletoads, Castlevania, and... Contra?
this is probably the coolest thing that i have ever witnessed in all my years of engrossing myself in gaming culture. a man is playing mega man 2 for the 8-bit nes while a live rock band plays the music from the game appropriate to the level that he's playing on and he plays the game in its entirety. the band aint crap either, they know their stuff and they do their job well. well done.
